Hope on the horizon

Thousands of families around the world face the threat of losing their land, and with it, their homes and means to survive. But hope is uniting these poor communities; they are rising up against injustice.

Donate today so that more communities in Uganda can peacefully settle land disputes.

With your help, thousands of families can protect their land, ensure reliable sources of food, a safe home, and the continuation of their traditions and culture. It will mean children laughing, elders sharing stories, and communities thriving in harmony with nature. Hope is on the horizon, let’s walk towards it together.

Losing land means losing everything

Across Southeast Asia, Indigenous People are being driven from the land where they’ve lived sustainably for centuries. Forced evictions, deforestation and large-scale development projects mean they lose everything: food, shelter, work, medicine and dignity. Laws are either weak or not enforced, and human rights are denied.

In northern Uganda, people are haunted by memories of a fierce civil war. Land disputes are all too common, tearing communities apart as they fight over land with undefined boundaries. Women are particularly vulnerable to losing their land through intimidation and force.

Offer a lifeline to families living in fear

With your help, the most vulnerable families can protect their own land and homes, provide for their children and ensure that their basic human needs are met.

Stand with leaders like San Vansen

In 2022, a mining company shamelessly trespassed the land of an Indigenous Community in Cambodia, chopping down protected trees. With homes and livelihoods threatened, San Vansen; a brave community leader, took a stand. Fuelled by her passion and Cord’s training in peaceful communication, she gathered evidence and faced the company head-on. Incredibly, they admitted their wrongdoing, apologised and paid a fine. The money went back to the community; funding a new patrol room. When communities learn their rights and how to assert them, they can achieve remarkable outcomes.

Help communities transform their destiny

With Cord’s support, one community in Teso, Uganda, found a solution to the land disputes that were devastating their lives. In order to clearly mark land boundaries, neighbours walked together, planting saplings that would grow into hedges, forming a natural fence around their property. The GPS coordinates were marked on a map with each neighbour signing their agreement. Cord also trained local residents to become mediators, empowering the community to resolve land disputes and handle any future conflicts.

Before the project, people would intimidate one another by burning houses and destroying crops. Now everyone feels safe and tensions have melted away. Simple, locally designed projects that tackle the root causes of conflict, have the incredible power to transform whole communities.

Give generously and empower more courageous leaders like San Vansen.
